ReportMagic 3

Introduction

ReportMagic 3 is already available for your use at https://v3.reportmagic.net/.  As you are "the kind of person that reads Release Notes", please start using this version now as your primary URL and let us know of any remaining usability issues.  As a thank-you, you will be awarded the exclusive "V3 Beta User" badge, entitling you to exclusive swag (details coming soon).  In what follows, some features are not yet ready and have been marked with an asterisk(*).

ReportMagic V3 highlights

  • Single Sign-On using your Microsoft Azure AD (or Google*) identity
  • SharePoint mount points
  • Simplified, more consistent user interface
  • Dark mode support
  • Improved file system
  • Improved progress screens

Single Sign-On (SSO)

In ReportMagic 3, we no longer authenticate you using username/password.  Instead, you click "Microsoft Sign-In" or "Google Sign-In" and are authenticated using your existing company Microsoft (or Google*) account:

  • Existing users will be logged in seamlessly
  • As currently, new users to an existing Tenant must be authorised by a Tenant Admin
  • If we don’t recognise your email domain, a new Tenant will automatically be created on our starter “Pro Zero” subscription once you have signed the Terms of Service*
Please note that we will not support personal Microsoft or Google accounts.  If you require integration with a different Single Sign On provider, please let us know.

SharePoint mount points

If you add a SharePoint connection (from the Admin menu, click Connections), this will appear as a “mount point” in the File System, meaning that input files (e.g. Templates) and/or output files can be viewed and edited on your local machine from a OneDrive folder.

See https://reportmagic.net/help/connecting_sharepoint for instructions to give to your Azure Administrator.

Simplified, more consistent UI

The new V3 User Interface has been designed to provide a consistent, modern look and feel, while remaining familiar to existing users.  We have developed (and open sourced) a new, powerful user interface library with a consistent look and feel and built-in, automatic Dark mode support.  In V3, ReportMagic will automatically detect your light/dark mode preference and you can override this in your profile.

Improved file system

The new Files interface provides a cleaner, more usable interface and gives access to:

  • Template Library (now just called "Library")
  • A personal folder, accessible to:
    • the owning user
    • Administrators
  • Any SharePoint mount points

Improved progress screens

With the new progress screens (both Report Studio and Report Batch Jobs) being so crucial to Template developers, we have made these:

  • More responsive
  • Easier to filter, sort and search
  • More detailed
